Film The Notorious Bettie Page (Mary Harron, 2005)

Tonight a friend and I saw The Notorious Bettie Page at Galaxy Cinema in Cary. Bettie Page was a famous "pinup queen" of prurient yet conservative 1950s United States. The story, based on her life, portrays her as a smart and kind woman who was the victim of abusive relationships. In New York, she becomes a well-loved model, and, at least as portrayed in the film, innocently gets into "bondage" modeling. She has a religious awakening and gives up her modeling days; Bettie Page is still alive and I believe knew about but didn't actively participate in the making of this film.

The film featured good acting by Gretchen Mol who played the lead role. But it was a missable film, probably not worth the money to see on the large screen. I'd give it 5 stars out of 10.
